Ananya Panday, Bhumi Pednekar and Kartik Aryan starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh created a storm online with a particular dialogue, that irked many on the Internet. Kartik’s monologue in the film mocking marital rape offended netizens, who slammed the actor left, right and center on the Internet.
Many people expressed their disappointment over the Internet and criticized the makers and the actor for joking around the sensitive subject of marital rape, and as a result, the makers have decided to edit the dialogue out of the film.
The film’s actress Bhumi Pednekar had come out in defense and stated that the film is not sexist. She had even apologized for the dialogue, while Kartik had not reacted to the same.
After keeping mum for a long time, Kartik has finally reacted to the marital rape joke debate and stated that they have now rectified the dialogue after they realized it hurt the sentiments of the people.
“When the trailer came, we realized that we shouldn’t hurt anyone and should remove it immediately. Usually, this doesn’t happen in films.
“We took responsibility because it might have come across as something that wasn’t our intention. We realized we shouldn’t use that word (rape) at all so we have rectified it and made changes because we don’t want to hurt people’s sentiments.”
In the film, Kartik’s monologue which goes like, “Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari. Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari. Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai. (If we ask our wives for sex then we’re called beggars, if we deny them sex then we’re called torturers, and if we coerce them into having sex with us, we’re called rapists),” has been termed sexist by the people on the Internet, and as a result of the massive backlash, the makers have decided to remove it from the film.
